Columbus AFB is one of the Air Force's undergraduate pilot training (UPT) bases, operated by the 14th Flying Training Wing flying the T-6 Texan II, T-38 Talon, and T-1 Jayhawk. It's a schoolhouse assignment focused almost entirely on producing new pilots.

Keesler AFB is a major Air Education and Training Command technical training installation, run by the 81st Training Wing, teaching avionics, weather, cyber, and other enlisted technical skills. It also houses Keesler Medical Center and the Second Air Force headquarters. The base sits directly on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
