Aberdeen Proving Ground is a major Army research, development, testing, and evaluation installation on Chesapeake Bay, home to Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) and Army Test and Evaluation Command elements. It's a research- and engineering-heavy post rather than a troop garrison.

The Coast Guard Yard, in the Curtis Bay section of Baltimore, is the service's only industrial shipyard, building and overhauling cutters and small boats for the entire fleet. It's a production and depot-maintenance facility rather than an operational cutter homeport.
